Duration: 8 hour
Start off with a refreshing morning breathing in the ocean breeze at Chishingtan Beach. Then, prepare to get your blood pumping with a hike up Zhuilu Old Trail.
The first kilometre of the hike consists of a continuous ascent up a rocky path in a forested area before arriving at the Badagong outpost (1.0k), a small settlement that has since been abandoned. The 1.0k – 2.5k stretch continues as a upward climb with another scenic rest stop at a bridge suspended over the Liwu river. Upon reaching the 2.5k mark, be rewarded with stunning views of Taroko Gorge as you thread along the narrow path carved out of a cliff overlooking Taroko Gorge. The path then ends with a rest area at the 3.0k mark, before turning around to make a descent via the same trail.
After the hike, take a breather with views of the majestic marble canyons at Swallow’s Grotto. Then, immerse in a little bit of history at the iconic Eternal Spring Shrine. Finally, end of the day with sights of the gorgeous coastline of Hualien at Qingshui Cliff.
